Housing and Urban Development Secretary and one-time presidential hopeful Ben Carson has announced he intends to leave his post at the end of President Trump’s first term.

According to the Washington Post, Carson made the comments during an interview on conservative news outlet Newsmax TV, revealing of his plans, “I will certainly finish out this term.”

Carson, who is a former neurosurgeon, told Newsmax, “I would be interested in returning to the private sector because I think you have just as much influence, maybe more, there.”

According to Fortune, HUD was established in 1965 and “provides mortgage insurance, public and Section 8 housing, and block grants.” President Trump appointed Carson to the post even though, as Fortune points out, the retired neurosurgeon had “no experience in housing, executive management, or government.”
