Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders has announced he will enter the 2020 presidential race.

Sanders, who previously ran against Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination in 2016, wrote in an email to supporters, “Our campaign is not only about defeating Donald Trump, the most dangerous president in modern American history. It is not only about winning the Democratic nomination and the general election. Our campaign is about transforming our country and creating a government based on the principles of economic, social, racial and environmental justice.”

The Vermont Senator announced his 2020 bid via a video released on social media, tweeting, “I am running for president. I am asking you to join me today as part of an unprecended and historic grassroots campaign that will begin with at least 1 million people from across the country.”

“Powerful special interests may have the money, but we have the people,” Sanders shared on Twitter.

According to The Washington Post, Sanders enters the race with the biggest social media following and biggest mailing list of any candidate for the Democratic nomination.
