China Moves Forward with Plans to Become World Leader in Artificial Intelligence

China is moving forward with their announcement over the summer to become the world leader in artificial intelligence by building a $2.1 billion A.I. research park.

The park, which will be built in the Mentougou district of Beijing, should be completed within five years. It will encompass 54.87 hectares, according to a statement released by China’s state-backed news agency Xinhua and will be home to around 400 businesses.

Xinhua announced the A.I. research technology park will focus on high-speed big data, biometrics and cloud computing. The Beijing park will seek partnership with Chinese and overseas universities and research institutes to establish research facilities, including a “national level” artificial intelligence lab.

The country announced over the summer they plan to be the world leader in artificial intelligence by 2030.
