The Dalai Lama has been hospitalized for a chest infection.
According to Reuters, the 83-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader was admitted to a New Delhi hospital after feeling some “discomfort.”
“Doctors have diagnosed him with a chest infection and he is being treated for that,” the Dalai Lama’s personal secretary told Reuters. “His condition is stable now. He will be treated for two to three days here.”
The Dalai Lama, who is revered by millions of Tibetan Buddhists, fled Tibet for exile in India in 1959 following an unsuccessful revolt against Chinese rule.
According to Reuters, “many of the up to 100,000 Tibetans living in India are worried that their fight for a genuinely autonomous homeland would end with the Dalai Lama.”
