Jimmy Kimmel had decided to end his feud with Fox’s Sean Hannity and issued an apology for jokes he made regarding First Lady Melania Trump’s accent.

“While I admit I did have fun with our back and forth, after some though, I realize that the level of vitriol from all sides (mine and me included) does nothing good for anyone, and, in fact, is harmful to our country,” Kimmel wrote on Twitter. “I will take Sean Hannity at his word that he was genuinely offended by what I believed and still believe to be a harmless and silly aside referencing our First Lady’s accent. Mrs. Trump almost certainly has enough to worry about without being used as a prop to increase TV ratings.”
In his tweet, Kimmel revealed his wife has received “vile” attacks and his infant son has even received “death threats.”
The feud with Hannity began after Kimmel made fun of Mrs. Trump’s Eastern European accent after she read a book to children during the annual White House Easter Egg Hunt. It escalated, with Hannity – an ardent Trump supporter – referring to Kimmel as “a sick, twisted, creepy, perverted weirdo” during his Fox show on Friday.
Hannity responded to the apology with an invitation for Kimmel to appear on his show, saying, “I really do enjoy a good fight. I do agree with Jimmy in the sense it’s time to move on….Jimmy, you seem focused on politics. You seem sincere when you talked about healthcare, you seem sincere when you talk about the country. If you want to come on this show, I promise no name calling, no anger, no rehashing of the Twitter fight.”
