John Schnatter, the founder of pizza chain Papa John’s, has resigned as chairman of the company’s board after he admitted using a racial slur during a May conference call.

According to Forbes magazine, Schnatter used the racial slur during a conference call with marketing agency Laundry Service in which he complained KFC never faced backlash after “Colonel Sanders called black n……s.”

MSNBC are reporting the call with Laundry Service was a role-playing exercise to help Schnatter avoid public relations scandals such as the ones he faced over comments he made about NFL players protesting police brutality.

Papa John’s released a statement saying they would appoint a new chairman of the board in the coming weeks.
