President Trump has canceled his upcoming trip to Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum due to the ongoing partial government shutdown.

In a tweet, the president blamed Democrats for their “intransigence on Border Security” writing, “Because of the Democrats intransigence on Border Security and the great importance of Safety for our Nation, I am respectfully cancelling my very important trip to Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum. My warmest regards and apologies to the @WEF!”

With the shutdown now the second longest in history, and negotiations for the $5.7 billion the president is demanding to erect a barrier along the border with Mexico stalled, there seems no end in sight for the current stalemate.

As he departed Washington on Thursday to visit the Texas border with Mexico, President Trump told reporters he will declare a national emergency to get the wall funded, saying, “I have the absolute right to declare a national emergency. I’m not prepared to do that yet, but if I have to, I will.”
