President Barack Obama endorsed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Thursday, showing his support for her as the next presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
Obama announced his endorsement via web video, stating his reasons for his endorsement, in part saying, “She’s got the courage, the compassion, and the heart to get the job done.”
Prior the announcement, Obama urged Senator Bernie Sanders and his supporters to put their support and energy toward Hillary Clinton, in an effort to unite the Democratic Party.
In the speech he announced his plans to join Clinton on the campaign trail. “I want those of you who have been with me since the beginning of this incredible journey to be the first to know that I’m with her.” He added, “I am fired up. And I can’t wait to get out there and campaign with Hillary.”
Clinton acknowledged Obama’s support via Twitter stating, “Honored to have you with me, @POTUS. I’m fired up and ready to go!”
