Bill Gates has propelled the 2012 psychology book The Better Angels Of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined to the top of Amazon’s best seller list after tweeting about it during a Twitter graduation speech.

On giving advice to college graduates, Gates tweeted, “If I could give each of you a graduation present, it would be this–the most inspiring book I’ve ever read.”

According to the Washington Post the tweet helped the book surge 608,850 percent to climb to number 2 on the over-all Amazon best seller list – just behind Oh, The Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss.

The book, published by Harvard psychologist Steven A. Pinker, talks about the decrease in violence in recent centuries and the reason for the decrease.

Gates has said the book, “Shows how the world is getting better…this is the most peaceful time in human history. That matters because if you think the world is getting better, you want to spread the progress to more people and places. It doesn’t mean you ignore the serious problems we face. It just means you believe they can be solved. This is the core of my worldview. It sustains me in tough times and is the reason I love my work. I think it can do the same for you.”

Gates also urged graduates to “Surround yourself with people who challenge you, teach you, and push you to be your best self.”
