Fox News has suspended Donald Trump’s former campaign manager David Bossie over a “cotton picking” comment he made on air, according to The Daily Beast.

Bossie, who now works as an outside advisor to the president and is a regular contributor to Fox News, made the comment during a heated discussion with Democratic strategist Joel Payne on Sunday’s Fox & Friends Weekend.

Amid the spat with Payne, who is African American, Bossie fired back, “You’re out of your cotton-picking mind.”

“I have some relatives who picked cotton,” Payne responded. “I’m not going to sit back and let you attack me on TV like that.”

Fox News host Ed Henry condemned Bossie’s comments following the segment, telling viewers, “I want to make clear that Fox News and this show, myself, don’t agree with that particular phrase. It was obviously offensive.”

According to The Daily Beast, Fox News has suspended Bossie for two weeks, saying in a statement, “David Bossie’s comments today were deeply offensive and wholly inappropriate. His remarks do not reflect the sentiments of Fox News and we do not in any way condone them.”

Bossie took to Twitter to issue an apology, tweeting, “During a heated segment on Fox & Friends today, I should have chosen my words more carefully and never used the offensive phrase that I did. I apologize to Joel Payne, Fox News and its viewers.”
