Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has pledged $2 billion to fight homelessness and build preschools in low-income areas.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Bezos – who is the world’s richest man – revealed his Bezos Day One Fund will start off with a $2 billion investment aimed at “funding existing non-profits that help homeless families; and creating a network of new, non-profit, tier-one preschools in low-income communities.”

“The Day 1 Families Fund will issue annual leadership awards to organizations and civic groups doing compassionate, needle-moving work to provide shelter and hunger support to address the immediate needs of young families,” Bezos shared.

“The Day 1 Academies Fund will launch and operate a network of high-quality, full-scholarship, Montessori-inspired preschools in underserved communities,” Bezos, a former Montessori student, revealed for his low-income education focus.

Bezos ended his Twitter announcement by saying, “We’ll use the same set of principles that have driven Amazon. Most important among those will be genuine, intense customer obsession. The child will be the customer.”
