President Trump’s former fixer, Michael Cohen, reported to federal prison on Monday making sure to take one last jab at his former boss before booking in.
Cohen, who spent a decade working as Trump’s personal lawyer, didn’t mention the president by name but left little doubt as to whom he was referring to.
“I hope that when I rejoin my family and friends that the country will be in a place without xenophobia, injustice and lies at the helm of our country,” Cohen told reporters as his left his luxury Manhattan apartment to start his three-year sentence. “There still remains much to be told, and I look forward to the day where I can share the truth.”
Cohen’s sentence is a result of tax evasion charges and campaign finance violation charges regarding hush money paid to women who allegedly had affairs with Donald Trump.
Cohen will spend his sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Otisville, a minimum security prison known for housing white collar criminals. According to the Associated Press, the amenities include tennis courts and bocce ball with the prison being described as one of the “cushiest prisons in America” by Forbes. Current inmates include former Jersey Shore star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino who is serving an eight-month prison sentence on charges of tax evasion.
