President Trump has vowed to secure the border with Mexico with the military until a wall can be built.

During a White House press conference yesterday the President told reporters, “Until we can have a wall and proper security, we’re going to be guarding the border with the military. That’s a big step, we haven’t really done that before, or certainly not very much before.”

According to the Associated Press, the White House appears to be considering using a model similar to one George W. Bush used in 2006, when 6,000 National Guard troops were deployed to help assist border control with non-law enforcement duties while additional border agents were hired and trained.

A White House official confirmed to Fox News President Trump’s plan would require a “substantial mobilization of the National Guard.”

President Trump followed up his urge for stricter border control, tweeting Wednesday, “Our Border Laws are very weak while those of Mexico & Canada are very strong. Congress must change these Obama era, and other, laws NOW! The Democrats stand in our way – they want people to pour into our country unchecked….CRIME! We will be taking strong action today.”
